POTIONS, DRAUGHTS, AND TONICS

I. The Brewing Process

Potion brewing can be a complicated process. It isn't just about gathering the right ingredients, it's also about applying those ingredients in the right method and order listed to make the potion function as it should. All potions start with the same five hundred (500) mL water base, but said water must be distilled in order to properly take hold. Forgetting even one of these steps can result in anything from the potion not working, to more dangerous outcomes of potions exploding.

The ingredients listed in the recipes below are in the order that they must be applied in order to create the proper potion. Any descriptor next to the ingredient (usually in parenthesis) is the state needed to be applied to said ingredient before being added. It should be noted that stirring should occur between each ingredient addition to properly create the mixture.

Finally, once the final ingredient is added and mixed, the potioneer must focus on the concoction and use prestidigitation on the potion to imbue it with the arcana it needs to become a true potion.

II. Important information

These potions can be brewed by everyone unless they are healer potions, in which case only healers will have/be able to utilize them. Potions have unique effects, but we ask you to be realistic with the brewing and distribution of said potions. Try not to metagame knowing a potion without having learned it first, and please do not spam out a large supply of potion(s) without permission.

If an admin is made aware of someone spamming potions, they will be spoken. Continuing to spam potions unrealistically can result in punishment for those doing so. We do not want to change the effects of potions, and we know many of them seem very interesting, so please do not make it come to this.

A golden potion which is also commonly known as liquid-luck. This potion seemingly gives the drinker "good luck", as things will tend to go their way for the duration of the potion. It also gives the user a clear head, and charmingly strong confidence. The potion lasts for one (1) hour, and after wearing off, the user will experience terrible headaches and an influx of bad luck for the next twelve (12) hours. Brewing this potion perfectly is extremely difficult, and most brews result in a lower duration period and/or a higher recovery period. As such this is a common use to see if one is an expert potioneer.

METHOD:

Start with a five hundred (500)mL base of distilled water
Weigh twelve (12) grams of ambergris and crush them with a mortar and pestle until it becomes a fine powder.
Add thirty (30) mL of virgin coconut oil
Next, take four (4) dried petals of the heather flower and add them to the solution one at a time.
Crush two (2) nutmegs in a mortar and pestle to small portions.
Add one (1) skinned rabbits foot whole. Note: It must be the left foot to work properly.
Add three (3) pairs of cricket legs
Finally, add fifteen (15) grams of powdered cinnamon. It can be bought pre-powdered.

A deep red potion that will temporarily provide the drinker with increased strength (+0.5 tons to their base strength) for the duration of thirty (30) minutes. This potion cannot be stacked, and if drank at the same time as the Draught of Durability, will malfunction and cause the drinker painful muscle aches with no strength benefit. Overuse of this potion will result in muscle atrophy in the drinker, so it is advised to keep usage to no more than once a week at a maximum.

METHOD:

Start with a five hundred (500)mL base of distilled water
Grind up twenty (20) grams of black pepper.
Crush eight (8) dried chrysanthemum leaves to small flakes.
Finely dice ten (10) grams of milk thistle.
Add eighteen (18) grams of shaved ram's horn.
Finally, add one (1) preserved hair from a horse's mane.

An orange potion that will temporarily provide the drinker with increased durability (+0.5 tons to their base durability) for the duration of thirty (30) minutes. This potion cannot be stacked, and if drank at the same time as the Strengthening Solution, it will malfunction and cause the drinker painful muscle aches with no durability benefit. Overuse of this potion will result splintered bone fractures, so it is advised to keep usage to no more than once a week at a maximum.

METHOD:

Start with a five hundred (500)mL base of distilled water.
Finely dice four (4) aloe leaves.
Add three (3) freshly harvested bay leaves.
Weigh out (13) grams of cumin and crush it with a mortar and pestle into a fine powder.
Next, crush two (2) cloves of garlic with a mortar and pestle.
Finally, add one tortoise tail (whole).

An icy-blue potion that temporarily provides the drinker with a resistance to cold and ice for the duration of thirty (30) minutes. This effect cannot be stacked with other resistance tonics. Overuse of this potion can result in nerve damage, so it is suggested to limit intake to no more than once every few days.

METHOD:

Start with a five hundred (500)mL base of distilled water.
Add six (6) dried holly leaves one at a time.
Mix seventeen (17) pine needles from a pine tree into the solution. Note: These pine needles must be fresh/picked within the last six hours.
Weigh twenty-one (21) grams of quartz and crush them into small pieces with a mortar and pestle. Do not powder.
Measure ten (10)mL of lime juice, and pour all in at once.
Finally, add fourteen (14) grams of walrus tusk shavings to the solution.

A fire-red potion that temporarily imbues the drinker with a resistance to heat and fire for the duration of thirty (30) minutes. This effect cannot be stacked with other resistance tonics. Overuse of this potion can result in nerve damage, so it is suggested to limit intake to no more than once every few days.

METHOD:

Start with a five hundred (500)mL base of distilled water.
Crush fifteen (15) grams of black pepper with a mortar and pestle.
Measure out three (3)mL of red pepper extract.
Weigh six (6) grams of chili powder. This can be bought as a powder.
Grind eighteen (18) grams of sulfur into a fine powder with a mortar and pestle.
Finally, add two (2) salamander eyes whole.

An electric-blue liquid that temporarily imbues the drinker with a electric and lightning for the duration of thirty (30) minutes. This effect cannot be stacked with other resistance tonics. Overuse of this potion can result in nerve damage, so it is suggested to limit intake to no more than once every few days.

METHOD:

Start with a five hundred (500)mL base of distilled water.
Weigh twelve (12) grams of dried basil leaves.
Measure seven (7)mL of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
Add nine (9) grams of oak wood shavings. Note: Not sawdust.
Weigh four (4) grams of lithium quartz and crush it into a fine powder with a mortar and pestle.
Finally, add three (3) platypus barbs.

A dark violet potion that will place those who drink it into a deep slumber. The danger of this potion lies in its ability to slow the heartbeat of the drinker to a point that is indistinguishable from having no heartbeat at all. The drinker will be unable to be awoken by any means except that of the antidote. The only known antidote is fermented goat milk with fresh honey (known commonly as Golden Goat in pubs). It should be noted that the use of this potion against an unknowing victim can be considered a violation of the law depending on how the potion is used.

METHOD:

Start with a five hundred (500)mL base of distilled water.
Add four (4) freash agrimony leaf petals.
Measure thirteen (13)mL of chamomile oil.
Finely dice two (2) hops flowers.
Neatly chop one (1) root of the mandrake.
Measure and add five (5)mL of hemlock essence.
Finally, add one (1) whole brown bat wing.

A bright pink potion with unique properties. When brewed, amortentia gives off the scent of whatever the person smelling it holds as their favorite scents. Such smells could be anything from an ocean breeze, or freshly made chocolate chip cookies. When the potion is consumed, the drinker will adopt as close emotions to love/infatuation as possible for the person whose hair is added to the potion beforehand. However, it really only draws out an unhealthy obsession for that person in a mock imitation of real love. The potion only lasts for one (1) hour before wearing off. It is a criminal offense to use this potion to create a sexual encounter.

METHOD:

Start with a five hundred (500)mL base of distilled water.
Crush one (1) apricot seed with a mortar and pestle.
Weigh six (6) grams of topaz.
Weigh seventeen (17) grams of cumin powder. This can be bought powdered, or done with a mortar and pestle.
Measure and add eight (8)mL of jasmine oil.
Crush three (3) lady bugs and add to the concoction.
Finally, place one strand of hair from the person you want the drinker to fall in love with into the potion.

A clear potion that causes the drinker to impulsively answer any question asked of them with the truth. The flaw of this potion is that the drinker will answer with what they perceive as their subjective truth. As such, the potion can be very unreliable for certain situation, and it has been banned from being used in council summons for this very reason. The effects of this potion has a duration of ten (10) minutes.

METHOD:

Start with a five hundred (500)mL base of distilled water.
Measure and add nine (9)mL of camphor oil extract.
Weigh fourteen (14) grams of cinnamon. Must be powdered.
Shred one (1) gum tree root.
Finely dice seventeen (17) grams of ginger.
Add one (1) whole African grey parrot feather.
Crush three (3) grams of lapis lazuli with a mortar and pestle.

A milky-white potion that is not designed to be ingested, and doing so will cause a bad stomachache. Instead, the tincture is meant to be dropped into the user's eyes. Upon doing so, it will give the user 20/20 vision for the next twelve (12) hours. This has become a common replacement for glasses and contacts in the mythical world. However, it should be noted that some mythics have an allergy to this potion, and will be unable to utilize it.

METHOD:

Start with a five hundred (500)mL base of distilled water.
Chop twenty-six (26) grams of fresh carrots.
Finely dice fourteen (14) grams of dandelion root.
Grind seven (7) grams of coffee beans with a mortar and pestle.
Measure and add nine (9)mL of hibiscus oil.
Add two (2) whole dragonfly wings.

A murky brown potion that shares the same name as the plant. much like the plant, this potion is meant for use by werewolves. When consumed, it helps relieve the headaches and other negative side-effects leading up to the full moon. The potion will also weaken and help sedate the wolves once they transform. Note: This does not make them passive. They will still attack if the opportunity presents, but will not actively seek out kills.

METHOD:

Start with a five hundred (500)mL base of distilled water.
Weigh twelve (12) grams of dried agrimony.
Measure and add six (6)mL of chamomile oil.
Weigh eighteen (18) grams of limestone, and crush it to a fine powder with a mortar and pestle.
Chop ten (10) grams of passion flower.
Add one (1) aconite/wolfsbane root.

Commonly known as the insomniac's tincture, this green potion helps to counteract the symptoms of sleep exhaustion. It works by imbuing the drinker with all the physical and mental benefits of a good night's sleep. If utilized too often, the potion will lose its effectiveness, and the drinker will need to sleep for an extended period of time.

METHOD:

Start with a five hundred (500)mL base of distilled water.
Crush thirteen (13) grams of poppy seeds with a mortar and pestle.
Measure and add seven (7)mL of vervain oil.
Crush three (3) grams of amethyst with a mortar and pestle.
Mash one (1) goodberry/druid berry.
