SIREN LORE

I. History and Origin

Sirens are mermaid-like creatures that do best in and around water. The originate from the fabled city of Atlantis. Long ago, Atlantis was a thriving civilization which was situated in what is now known as the Eye of Africa. During this time, the Atlanteans were among the most advanced and in tune with the water that surrounded them. They used it for agriculture, food, transportation, and anything else needed. The shamans of Atlantis focused almost entirely on shamanistic magics revolving around water. Due to this, the shamans slowly became more adaptive to the deep ocean. However, tragedy struck when a meteor struck Earth near now-a-day Canada and caused massive flooding all over the world. This flood has been incorporated in most religions and legends of lore, including the flood mentioned in the Bible. Due to where Atlantis was situated, its people stood little chance against the torrent of water that washed over it.

When the flooding destroyed and wash Atlantis away, burying what little remained under mountains of sand, the only survivors were the Atlantean shamans. Unfortunately, the custom of Atlantis had been an entirely female-only shaman circle, therefore leaving them as a group of women with no way to carry on the Atlantean legacy. As they abandoned their once thriving civilization, they took to the open seas where they channeled their magic into their form to permanently change the way their bodies would function. They could now survive and breathe underwater, and retained some of their ability to manipulate it. With their immediate survival taken care of, they turned to their next issue and sought out potential way to carry on their bloodlines.

Eventually they began to target passing boats and using shamanistic charms of old to lure seafaring men to them to properly mate. From this arrangement, however, the offspring produced would only be female and thus the cycle continued. Many normal mortals experienced this phenomenon, but the stories have since changed their names to something akin to mermaid.

II. Appearance

In their land form, Sirens are typically women who have a natural beauty to them that seems unrivaled to many. As such, those attracted to women tend to find them breathtaking which draws them attention regardless if it is wanted or not. However, if they are threatened, they can extend out sharp talons and teeth to defend themselves from any too forward advances.

When using their charming abilities, Sirens normally have a pink hue to the iris of their eyes, which helps to activate the magic behind their abilities.

In the water, Sirens can take an entirely different appearance. They grow fish tails and scales across their body. Talons grow out of their fingers to defend themselves, and beady eyes that hold intimidation. In this form they adopt an entirely opposite effect and resemble more monster than beauty. However, Sirens can choose their scale of transformation in the water to be anything from just the tail to the full monster-like capability.

III. Becoming a Siren

Unlike other mythical species, people are not able to be converted into Sirens. Instead, Sirens are made very similar to how normal humans are. It is a direct genetic trait that is passed down from Siren to Siren. As mentioned above, Sirens are exclusively female, and as such Sirens are only able to produce baby girls who will then take after them. Some still use the method of sailor seduction to reproduce, but many find it easier to simply find a normal mate on land and return to the sea later in life after they have reproduced.

Sirens up until puberty seem like a normal human girl. Once hitting puberty, they begin to gain many of the Siren abilities, though the rest of their abilities occur once they reach full adulthood between the ages of 17-24. Until that time they are considered Premature Siren.

SIREN GUIDELINES

I. Fledgling Siren

Female only species
Possesses a natural beauty that is very appealing to those attracted to women. They smell like that person's favorite smell and when a Siren laughs, it can give off feelings of infatuation. These feelings can become lesser the more time a person spends with a Siren in a platonic fashion. (You have to be close to them as a platonic friend, not just an acquaintance)
Prestidigitation: A general purpose spell that lasts one hour which is used with simple hand movement to accomplish a variety of small tasks such as:
Creating an illusion object that can fit in the caster's hand
Creating or dismissing a small tuft of fire such as a match or fireplace
Creating a small light to float above the caster much like a lantern
Unlocking a non-magic mechanical lock on a door or object
Changing the color or design of an object
Creating a harmless sensory effect such as an odd odor, sparks, or a musical note

[li]Can use their voice to charm people nearby to do suggestive tasks. This will wear off if the person being charmed experiences any sort of pain.

Cannot be used to force someone to do something against their moral code, such as making an innocent person kill someone.

[li]Singing and dancing produces a more powerful charm that will draw people to them naturally, causing people to ignore their surroundings otherwise. This will wear off is the people being charmed experience any sort of pain.[/li]
[li]In their aquatic form, Sirens grow many mermaid-like features which allow them to breathe and speak underwater as easily as they can above. Using their fins, Sirens are able to swim as fast as a sword fish at a moments notice with the ability to change their direction on a dime. This form also grants them extra durability (1.5 ton) and extra strength (.5 ton) while in said water.[/li]
[li]While submerged in water, Sirens gain minor enhanced healing which lets minor wounds to heal almost more than twice as fast as they normally would.[/li]
[li]Can retract and extend strong talons that are as sharp as steel from their fingers as well as sharp steel-like teeth from their mouth.[/li]
[li]Sirens can manipulate water to glow around their hands and when placed on a wound of another, it will work to heal surface wounds. Bruises, cuts, and scrapes heal almost instantly, whereas major wounds can only be stopped from bleeding but not fully healed. If they keep their healing water on a wound it can prevent someone from succumbing to a life-threatening injury unless concentration is broken.[/li]
[li]Can perform Shape Water: Choose an area of water that you can see within 20 feet that is no bigger than a 5-foot cube. You can manipulate it in one of the following ways:[/li]

You instantaneously move or otherwise change the flow of the water as you direct, up to 5 feet in any direction. This movement doesn’t have enough force to cause damage, but can push a being back.
You cause the water to form into simple shapes and animate at your direction. This change lasts for 15 minutes.
You change the water's color or opacity. The water must be changed in the same way throughout. This change lasts for 15 minutes.
You freeze the water. This change lasts for 15 minutes.

[li]When a Siren experiences a large amount of anger, frustration, anxiety, or fear, they turn into their Harpy Form. This form turns them into a bird-like woman with the talons of an eagle and large feathered wings connected to their arms.

They tend to attack whatever caused them the emotion to transform unless prevented by another means that draws their attention, though unlike werewolf they have some of their wits about them and won't kill unless they would normally.
In their Harpy Form, they can create fireballs in their hands and throw them down at their victims.
This form only lasts for a max of 20 OOC minutes and cannot occur more than once a day due to how draining it is. If they are calmed down before transforming, or brought to a body of water, they will not transform.
Due to the nature of hormones, fledgling Sirens are more likely to partake in this transformation, and mature Sirens less likely.

II. Mature Siren
